Writing aids

The writing aids stream serves children and youth with physical disabilities.

The writing aids stream serves children and youth with physical disabilities who are able to speak but whose handwriting skills do not meet their written output needs, and who require tools and strategies to support their written communication.

Our team of occupational therapists, assistive technology consultants and speech-language pathologist works collaboratively with clients and their families to provide goal-setting, assessment and training of equipment that replaces the need to write by hand. This may involve a computer with adapted hardware (e.g. switch activation) or software (e.g. on-screen keyboard, voice recognition).

The communication and writing aids service is an expanded level clinic with the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Our clinicians can authorize ADP funding assistance for eligible clients.
