The requirement to wear a mask at Holland Bloorview for all aquatic staff, swimmers and families will not be changing for the foreseeable future.

Public health guidelines and protocols will be in place, including:

  • Masking is a requirement throughout the hospital (in pool changerooms and on deck)
  • Physical distancing on the pool deck and in the water
  • Enhanced cleaning and sanitization procedures

Holland Bloorview is moving to a passive screening for all pool participants:

If you are experiencing any symptoms, have have had an exposure to COVID or are pending a COVID swab please do not come to the pool.  

  1. Do you feel sick or have any of these symptoms?
    1. Fever
    2. Dry Cough
    3. Sore throat
    4. Difficulty swallowing
    5. Shortness of breath
    6. Decrease in sense of smell or taste
    7. Any other respiratory symptoms (e.g. runny noses)
    8. Headaches
    9. Join aches
    10. Fatigue
    11. Nausea 
    12. Vomiting
    13. Diarrhea
  2. Are you or someone in your household currently waiting for results of testing for COVID-19 or had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 without wearing the appropriate PPE or have you tested positive for COVID-19, all within the last 10 days?
  • Follow all safety and directional signage
  • Following the program, equipment will be sanitized and high-tough surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected
  • In the event a water rescue or first aid is required to be performed by a lifeguard, personal protective equipment and specialized devices will be used at the first available opportunity.
  • In some instances, a close contact rescue will be required and lifeguards will use their best judgment to perform the rescue and maintain physical distancing

Important information for swimmers

  • Holland Bloorview is moving to a passive screening for all pool participants. 
  • Please identify yourself as pool users when you enter the building.  
  • Arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start of the swim
  • Whenever possible, please arrive with your bathing suit under your clothes to help restrict the number of people needing to use the change rooms.
  • Change room use is limited to a maximum of 15 minutes after your program. 
  • Limited equipment will be available for each participants' personal use during the program; however, swimmers are encouraged to bring their own
  • During swimming lessons, a parent or caregiver is required to accompany their child in the water if the swimmer is in a Swim Kids 3 level or lower (including all preschool levels) in order to provide support for the learner.
