Welcome

The mission of PEARL (Possibility Engineering and Research Lab) is to conceptualize, develop, and evaluate innovative technologies that create possibilities for young people with disabilities to participate more meaningfully in arts, music, physical activities, and therapies.

Our team works extensively in the development of virtual reality therapies and in the creation of interactive play spaces that are accessible to young people of all abilities in healthcare environments.

Directed by Dr. Elaine Biddiss, the PEARL lab is highly interdisciplinary and applies a user-centred, participatory design approach to ensure the needs of key stakeholders (children, families, clinicians) are met. The core values underlying our research endeavours are: innovation, clinical impact, evaluation, and translation.
