The Holland Bloorview Investor Challenge is a smart approach to donating to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation. It provides diversification, stability, and growth to Foundation funds and supports the Hospital’s highest priority needs.

The following investment managers are managing funds for Holland Bloorview Foundation in 2018:

Aubrey Hearn, Vice-President and Senior Portfolio Manager, Sentry Investments


Aubrey Hearn joined Sentry Investments in 2005 and has more than 15 years of proven success in the financial industry. Aubrey’s keen understanding of business dynamics, dedication to internal research and focus on high-quality, dividend-paying companies has led to him being awarded 20 prestigious investment awards. In 2015, he was named Investment Executive’s Mutual Fund Manager of the Year, which recognizes exceptional and consistent fund outperformance over 10 years.

Aubrey is the lead manager of Sentry Small/Mid Cap Income Fund and Sentry U.S. Growth and Income Fund, and co-manager of Sentry U.S. Monthly Income Fund. He is also a member of the management team for the company’s flagship fund, Sentry Canadian Income Fund.

Aubrey graduated with honours from Memorial University and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Aubrey lives in Toronto with his wife Laura and two children Emily and Spencer.

Sean McNulty, CEO and Portfolio Manager, XIB Asset Management Inc.


Sean McNulty is Principal and Co-Founder of XIB Financial Inc., holding company for Toronto-based capital markets consulting and advisory firms with a specialized focus on the globally emerging cannabis sector. He has been an active investor, advisor, and business developer in the sector having worked with many of the industry’s most prominent companies. Currently, Sean is the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at XIB Asset Management Inc, a registered investment fund manager and exempt market dealer.

Sean has previously completed extensive M&A advisory work with Canopy Growth Corporation and was one of the founding members of Canopy Rivers Corporation, a venture capital platform structured in partnership with Canopy Growth that provides growth capital and strategic support to prospective companies within the globally emerging cannabis industry.

Prior to founding XIB, Sean worked at one of Canada’s most successful hedge funds, MM Asset Management (MMAM), where he was part of a five-person investment team responsible for managing an event-driven investment portfolio.

Sean is a CFA Charter holder and received a Bachelor of Business Administration, graduating as Valedictorian from the University of New Brunswick with majors in finance and human resource management

Alex Sasso, Chief Executive Officer & Portfolio Manager, NCM Investments


Alex Sasso is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a Portfolio Manager at NCM Investments. Alex leads the firm’s small/mid cap investment team. He has over 21 years of investment management experience. Prior to joining NCM in 2004, Alex worked at a leading retail and institutional investment firm.

Specializing in the Canadian small/mid cap markets, Alex is very passionate about the wealth creation opportunities this segment has to offer. Alex has been the Portfolio Manager of NCM Norrep Fund since 2004, and also manages NCM Small Companies Class, NCM Income Growth Class and provides oversight on NCM Entrepreneurs Class.

Alex graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Commerce and is a CFA charterholder.

All investment decisions are guided by the direction provided by Holland Bloorview Foundation’s Special Purpose Investment Policy, and each manager will evaluate the returns on funds on a time-weighted basis, which will be measured against the funds’ existing benchmark.
