Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s Autism Programs
Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is a global leader in pediatric health with a vision to enable every child and youth live healthy and meaningful lives. For children and youth with autism and their families, Holland Bloorview has played a central role in autism diagnosis as a hub for Toronto.
In February of 2019, the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services introduced changes to the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). Under these changes, families will receive a “Childhood Budget” from the government to pay for eligible services. It is the Ministry's goal that all children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) obtain services in this manner by April 1st of 2020.
Holland Bloorview has created new program offerings focused on autism that are being delivered by caring and highly qualified professionals. Our program has been designed to support families navigating the recent changes to OAP and to meet the diverse needs of children with autism. Some programs are free, and others require a fee. Those requiring a fee are eligible under the new “Childhood Budgets."
Holland Bloorview will be evaluating the programs and actively engaging and seeking input from clients and families as well as our partners. This engagement and evaluation will allow us to plan our future service offerings and ensure that we are meeting the needs of the community.
