Nilou Hashemi

Graduate Student

PhD Candidate
Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto
Advisor: Dr. Tom Chau

Nilou received her BASc and MEng in electrical engineering from University of Toronto. She later on received her MASc from Ryerson University in biomedical engineering. As a result, she has research experience in diverse areas (e.g. ultrasound-based navigation, computer vision, robotics, power semiconductors, and electrostatic discharge devices). She also received a Fashion Design certificate from Seneca College somewhere in between. ☺

Current Research

Nilou’s current research explores the potential therapeutic roles of brain-computer interfaces, specifically that of asynchronous brain-based control of electrical stimulation when delivered at the disturbed neural circuitry (eg. induced as the result of stroke, surgery or accident).

Other Interests

Nilou plays piano and enjoys DIY projects in mechatronics and 3D printing. She also likes to
read and discover about the world around her -- the sky through telescope, and the rest through
microscope. She also likes to make educational videos to share her experiences with the
